Who we are

This site, thorntonortega.com, is run by Thornton & Ortega Publishing (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected], or at [email protected] for orders, downloads and refunds.

What you buy

We sell ebooks only: digital files. Nothing is shipped.
Every book comes in two formats, EPUB and PDF, for one price. An order can hold several books and collections; a collection includes every book listed for it.
After payment, we email you links to download the files. They are also in My account: sign in with the email address you used at checkout.
EPUB files open in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo and most reading apps, and can be sent to a Kindle. PDF files open on any computer, tablet or phone. How to read your ebook explains each device.

Prices and payment

Prices are in US dollars (USD).
You pay once for each order. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
You pay the price shown at checkout. During a promotion, the book page says when it ends; after that, the usual price applies. A collection has its own price; promotions on single books don't change it.
A discount code takes its percentage off each book and collection in your order, after any promotion, rounded to the cent. One code per order. A code can be turned off at any time; the cart and checkout tell you when a code isn't valid.
Payments are processed by Stripe, and by PayPal when you choose to pay with PayPal. You enter your card details on Stripe's secure payment page: they never reach our servers, and we never see or store your card number.
An invoice for each order is linked from your order email and from My account.
If you dispute a payment with your bank, the order's books can't be downloaded while the dispute is open. If it is closed in our favor, they can be downloaded again.

Delivery and your right of withdrawal

Our ebooks are delivered immediately after payment. Before you can check out, you must tick this box in your cart:

“I agree to immediate delivery of my digital download and I acknowledge that, once the download is made available, I lose my right of withdrawal (14-day cancellation right).”

By ticking it, you ask us to deliver your ebook right away, and you accept that once the download is made available, you no longer have the 14-day right of withdrawal (cancellation right) that applies to many online purchases. Your order email repeats this agreement. Our Refund Policy explains when we refund a book anyway: when you haven't downloaded that book and you ask within 14 days, even if you downloaded other books of the same order, or when a file is faulty, can't be downloaded or isn't as described.

Your license to read

When you buy an ebook, you buy a license to read it, not the copyright in it. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download the ebook and read it for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may keep the files on your own devices and make backup copies for yourself.

You may not:

share, send, upload or post the files, or make them available to anyone else, including on file-sharing sites;
sell, resell, rent, lend or give away the ebook or any copy of it;
copy, adapt or publish any part of it, except short quotations as the law allows, for example in a review.

If you break these rules, your license ends, and we may suspend your account (see Your account below).

Each EPUB and PDF you download is a personalized copy that carries a reference to your order (a random code, never your name or email address), so that a copy shared without permission can be traced back to the order it came from.

Our ebooks, their covers and the content of this site are protected by copyright. All rights are reserved by Thornton & Ortega Publishing.

Your account

Accounts have no password. To sign in, you enter the email address you used at checkout, and we email you a link that works once, for 15 minutes. Signing in keeps that browser signed in for 30 days, unless you sign out. Anyone who can read your email can sign in to your account, so please keep your email account secure.

We may suspend an account that breaks the license above. While an account is suspended, it can't be used to sign in, download its books (from My account or from the order emails) or review them, and its email address can't be used to buy on this site. We keep its orders and reviews, and a suspension doesn't change a newsletter subscription. If your account is suspended and you think it is a mistake, write to us at [email protected].

Reviews and the bonus book

Only buyers can review a book: each review is linked to a purchase and shows as a “Verified purchase”. You can review each book you bought once, and edit your review later.
Reviews must be honest and about the book. Please don't include email addresses, other personal information, or abusive or unlawful content. We may hide or delete a review that breaks these rules.
By posting a review, you allow us to publish it on this site with the name you choose, or as “Verified reader”.
When you publish a review of at least 8 words, whatever its rating, you get a free bonus ebook, once per account. It is in My account, and you can download it up to 3 times. If the review is hidden or deleted before you download the bonus book, the bonus is withdrawn. Reviews that earned a bonus book say so on the book page. The bonus book comes with the same license as the books you buy.

Be civil. Please don't post spam, advertising, hate, personal information or illegal content.
We may hide or remove any comment, and suspend commenting, at our discretion.
You are responsible for what you post. By posting a comment, you grant us a license to display it on this site, with the name you choose, or as “Verified reader”.
To have your own comment removed, email us at [email protected] from your account's email address, so we know it is yours.

Using this site

Please don't try to get around the site's security, checkout or download limits, or use its forms to send spam or harmful content.

About our books

Our books are written to inform. They are not legal, financial, tax, medical or other professional advice.

Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows:

we provide this site and our ebooks “as is”. We work to keep the site available and the files in good order, but we can't promise the site will always be available or free of errors;
we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data or lost profits;
our total liability for any claim about a purchase is limited to the price you paid for it.

Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, or takes away rights you have under the consumer laws of the country where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The terms on this page when you buy apply to that purchase. The date at the top shows the latest change.
